Future DJ feedback

discuss about DJ mixing on the iOS platform with Future DJ

Future DJ feedback

Postby cokecl » Mon Mar 21, 2011 5:54 pm

I registered here so I can give my opinion and experience with the software.

I think it has great potential, but there are little details that have to change to make it a serious dj app.

- first, how do you delete the cue points? I did a cue point wrong and now I'm stuck

- the pitch slider is absolute, it should be relative meaning that no matter where you put your finger small upward motions should modify a small decrement on the pitch and big upwards motions should decrease the pitch a bigger amount, the same for increasing the pitch.

- the pitch bend idea is clever, but unusable, you should have to big arrows over the waveform to pitch bend

- the eq is unusable, common, you cut almost ALL frequencies when you cut the LOW, it should only cut the bass to allow mixing, the same for hi, it should never cut the mids

- It would be great to have a pc/mac editor of the beat grid (althought it have a VERY ACCURATE beat engine as far as I could test)

- the skip "Effect" has no sense, why should you want to skip a beat?}

Anyway, with all these little defects is one of the only iOS software usable for casual dj playing (I would even use it as a backup!)

You can not "delete" the cue point, you simply set it to a different point in the song. To do that, pause the track on the new location, use your finger to scrub (move the waveform a bit) and then press CUE. The new cue-point is now set. This might seem strange at first use but it's THE actual way DJs are doing it on the majority of equipment out-there.

Good point with the pitch bend -- we will add arrow on top of the waveform for that.

About the eq -- this only happens when you're all the way down, and it's actually a feature -- it also cuts the mids so that you are left with only the bass or only the treble. It's basically a KILL function.

We do NOT want to have a desktop (Mac/Pc) editor since that's the whole point -- to have all the functions needed right on your phone. Also, you might want to try FutureDecks for desktop, it's really good I heard :D

The Skip Beat actually is very useful (but mainly for Pro DJs) to allow you mix the songs not only by beats but also by bars. It's not actually and effect and also the Brake is not an actual effect.

Even though it is a bit odd, you COULD use your iPhone to actually mix for a whole evening if you want to. You have all the basic tools for that.

P.S. next release will add some more features.

It would be nice to have a record function. Saved to your device.
I'd love to listen back to some of my mixes.

hello,

future.dj is a good mixing app. used it on a friends iphone. no vinyl imitation crap :)

any plans to make future.dj an universal app in an upcoming release ? would be great to benefit from the higher resolution / bigger screen on the ipad. and it would look less like a toy when mixing with it in front of the crowd

keep up the good work
regards

We're really busy finishing FutureDecks Pro. However, a version for the iPad and an updated version for the iPhone and iPod touch will surely be released.

We'll keep you updated. Have a nice day :).

Hello Javier,

The iPad version of Future DJ has been sent to Apple and now we are waiting for it to be approved.

We will be announcing the release once we get word from Apple that it's available.

In the meantime, you can look at this short video overview that we made to get an idea of what the new Future DJ can do:

Have a great day :-)
